PETE AVILA

It comes as no surprise that Pete Avila's passion for music was realized years before he ever stepped behind a pair of turntables. Like many of his contemporaries, Pete was weaned on pure R&B from the 70's. Pete confesses the soulful sounds of Earth, Wind & Fire, Chaka Khan and D-Train as early inspiration for the house music he plays today. However, it was the pure genius of Stevie Wonder and Curtis Mayfield that deeply moved his spirit and revealed the undeniable power of 'music with a message!' This single epiphany remains evident in both his uplifting sets and his production work in the studio. When Pete gets behind the DJ pulpit, rest assured your soul and spirit will be moved. His music penetrates and stirs your inner-most thoughts and emotions. Pete navigates through his set with the confidence and purpose of a modern-day shaman. His music speaks with reverence, fueling his image as a messenger of spiritual house. Whether he is performing here in the US. or overseas, he knows exactly how to capture a dance floor and without warning will launch a crowd into a state of abandoned delirium.

Pete Avila proclaims his performance at the now legendary Twilo in NYC to be a defining moment in his life. "It was always a dream to play that room. The old Sound Factory was where I realized my destiny to pursue a career as a DJ. I dropped 'Maybe God is Trying to Tell You Somethin' from the Color Purple soundtrack right in the middle of my set as tribute to Danny Tenaglia who unknowingly fulfilled my dream." Other memorable sets took place at Subliminal, Erick Morillo's industry party in NYC where Pete proudly shared the stage with the inspirational Jocelyn Brown. Other favorite nights took place at Warsaw Ballroom and Salvation in Miami primarily because both sound systems were designed by Steve Dash. Internationally, he delighted the Italians at 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' at The Base in Milan and will always remember the crowd at Stalker outside Amsterdam who refused to leave even after the fourth encore. In his native San Francisco, Pete has played practically every major venue, holding residencies at the End-Up's Sunday TDance, Sound Factory, Universe and Release. As a promoter, he's successfully created legendary clubs such as Osmosis, Twirl, Carefree, and Nature. Pete's helped organize massive events like the Gay Pride Parade, Cyberfest and ToonTown. He believes strongly in giving back to his community and continues to support events like AIDS Dance-Athon, Global DJ Mix Awards, AIDS Walk and Macy's Passport.

Pete Avila pioneered one of the Bay Area's first mixshows 'The Underground' back in 1991 and went on to create and produce 'Your Mama's House', San Francisco's #1 House mixshow on 106 KMEL. Every Friday night 1AM-5AM, loyal listeners were treated weekly to world-class DJs like Tony Humphries, Danny Tenaglia, Francois Kervorkian, David Morales and Louie Vega. Occasionally, the show featured live appearances by artists like Roy Ayers, Chaka Khan, Ultra Nate, and Martha Wash. The show's six year success helped elevate club and DJ culture in the Bay Area and most importantly became a platform and beacon of light amongst the industry's dance enthusiasts.

Without a doubt, Pete Avila's influence and passion continues to shape dance music as we know it today. Over the last ten years, Pete has earned his rank as one of today's top producers/remixers. He has had the priviledge of remixing some of dance music's legends including Martha Wash, Jocelyn Brown, Todd Terry, Inaya Day and Julie McKnight. Pete continues to serve as an in-house producer at Arista Records lending his signature soulful production to their roster of heavyweight multi-platinum artists including Aretha Franklin, Usher, Boyz II Men, Pink and Donell Jones. Most recently, Pete has collaborated with fellow DJ/Producer David Harness to focus on original music. Instinctually, they put together a full gospel choir called The Congregation and are currently working on their second single. DISCOGRAPHY
